Breaking the Story

305 W 43rd St, New York, NY 10036

The foreign war correspondent Marina (Maggie Siff) returns from a particularly violent conflict frightened, exhausted, and ready to stay home for good with her boyfriend (Louis Ozawa), who has also been her cameraman. Surrounded by friends and family as she receives a lifetime achievement award, Marina decides she wants to elope. But can she really just walk away from the extremes of her life-and-death career? As the war correspondent Sebastian Junger has written, “War is a lot of things and it’s useless to pretend that exciting isn’t one of them.” Alexis Scheer’s new play looks at the forces that sustain journalists in war zones and bedevil them in peacetime. Directed by Jo Bonney. —Jeanne Malle
