The Walt Disney Company turned 100 last year. To celebrate the centennial, the company created an exhibition that explores the creation of its beloved animal characters. Over 300 sketches, concept paintings, and final film sequences show how Disney’s animated dogs and cats—from Pongo and Perdita in One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) to Duchess from The Aristocats (1970)—were brought to life. The exhibition also sheds light on Walt Disney’s personal affection for animals, which inspired many a film. Peggy, his uncle’s German Shepherd, was even given a role in one of his earliest films, Alice’s Day at Sea (1924). —Paulina Prosnitz
